Perceptions of the world

“… so many quarrels and wars going on because people cannot agree on anything. Nations against nations, one group against the other — it just goes on and on. Quarrles and wars over what? What are they fighting about? About their perceptions of the world.”
Ajahn Sumedho

I had noticed this, when you watch people arguing, or your own arguments, it seems to me they are only arguing because each has a different definition of the word or concept they are arguing about. If someone’s brain goes on and they reconcile the definitions, argument stops.

And it also seems like, sometimes they just want to argue. If the discussion turns towards seeing that common definition, they veer away again, so they can continue doing the butting-heads thing, well ok that’s fun too.
