* Confirms that the two URLs represent the same person.
* Is the standard way to check that a website belongs to a user on a 3rd-party site.
example -
Mastodon uses it to highlight link on your Mastodon profile to your website.

its author, typically to give them credit for their work
(or portions of it, like books, articles, blog posts etc).
