links - apache

apache is one of many web server programs. It is free and open source. It is used by most sites around the world. Not just because it is free, but because it is good.

Most of us are on shared hosting, and will not be able to configure apache directly. But we can edit the .htaccess file and do most everything we need to do!

And of course we can do virtual hosting and other useful things on our own machines. For example, i have a separate "domain" on my machine, for each website i work with. Then everything works just the same when i upload it to live.
